Annandale

A Fairfax County community with deep roots along Little River Turnpike, neighborhood parks, nearby Lake Accotink, and one of the Washington area's best-known Korean dining districts.

Annandale is served by one zip code: 22003.

Annandale is an unincorporated community in Fairfax County, crossed by the Capital Beltway (I-495). Route 236 (Little River Turnpike) and Route 244 (Columbia Pike) cross the community, with Braddock Road along its southern edge and Arlington Boulevard (Route 50) along part of its northern edge.

A Little History The area was part of a large tobacco plantation established in the late 1600s by Colonel William H. Fitzhugh. The Little River Turnpike, completed in 1806, linked the area with Alexandria and Fairfax, and a Scottish settler gave the community its name in 1830, after the town of Annan in Scotland. Annandale's first post office opened in 1837.

Parks and Outdoors Mason District Park (6621 Columbia Pike) has a playground and tot lot, a hiking trail, playing fields, tennis courts, and reservable picnic shelters, plus summer events like the free Arts in the Parks children's series on Saturday mornings. Nearby, Lake Accotink Park offers a four-mile loop trail, fishing, kayak rentals, a miniature golf course, and an antique carousel (offerings vary by season). The Gerry Connolly Cross County Trail also follows Accotink Creek through the area.

Annandale's Korean Dining Scene Annandale is widely known as one of the Washington area's Koreatowns. Korean-owned businesses have been growing here for decades, and by the late 1980s it had become a hub of Korean-owned restaurants and shops, much of it along Little River Turnpike. It's a big reason people from all over the region come to eat here.

Schools Annandale is served by Fairfax County Public Schools. Annandale High School, on Medford Drive, opened in 1954 and offers the International Baccalaureate program. The Annandale campus of Northern Virginia Community College is also here. School assignments vary by address, so we recommend verifying school zoning with Fairfax County Public Schools for any specific home.
