Ashburn is served by two residential zip codes: 20147 and 20148. (20146 is a PO Box–only zip, and 20149 is a non-residential zip.)

Ashburn sits in eastern Loudoun County, about 30 miles northwest of Washington, D.C., roughly 7 miles southeast of Leesburg, and just north of Washington Dulles International Airport. It started as a farming village called Farmwell, stayed largely rural well into the 20th century, and grew quickly after Dulles opened in 1962, with another wave of growth in the 1980s and 1990s.

Neighborhoods Ashburn is known for its master-planned communities, including Ashburn Farm, Ashburn Village, Brambleton, Broadlands, Belmont, Moorefield, and Loudoun Valley Estates. Brambleton, for example, advertises four pool complexes, more than 18 miles of paved trails, a Town Center with shops and restaurants, and a weekly farmers market.

Metro Access The Silver Line reached Ashburn in November 2022. Loudoun Gateway is the first Ashburn stop, and Ashburn station is the western end of the line, with about 3,300 parking spaces and 13 Loudoun County Transit bus routes serving it. It's the station farthest from downtown D.C., so the ride is a longer one — worth factoring in if Metro is part of your commute plan.

Things To Do One Loudoun is a shopping, dining, and entertainment district with an Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, and the W&OD Trail — a former railroad corridor, now a 45-mile regional trail — runs through the area. Ashburn is also home to the Washington Commanders' training facility in east Ashburn, and it's nicknamed "Data Center Alley" for having the highest concentration of data centers in the world.

Schools Ashburn is served by Loudoun County Public Schools, including Broad Run High School and Stone Bridge High School, among others. Assignments vary by address, so we recommend verifying the school zone for any specific home.
