Gainesville has grown into one of the most in-demand communities in western Prince William County, with a population that's more than doubled since 2010. Gainesville is served by two zip codes: 20155 (residential and business) and 20156 (a PO Box–only zip serving the Lee Highway business corridor — not a residential area).

Signature Neighborhoods

• Heritage Hunt — a 55+ gated golf community with two clubhouses, an Arthur Hills-designed championship course, and over 100 resident clubs and activities
• Lake Manassas — home to the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, one of the most decorated golf courses in the region (more on that below)
• Virginia Oaks -- an established residential community; its golf course closed permanently in 2017, and the former clubhouse now operates as a community events facility (weddings, parties, gatherings) rather than a golf club
• Somerset & Piedmont — well-established neighborhoods offering a mix of single-family homes and townhomes close to Gainesville's main retail corridor

A Golf Course With Real History Not many communities can say they're home to a course that's hosted a PGA Tour event — Gainesville can say more than that. The Robert Trent Jones Golf Club on Lake Manassas hosted four Presidents Cup tournaments (1994, 1996, 2000, and 2005), a PGA Tour stop in 2015, and the Solheim Cup in 2024. It's a genuine piece of golf history sitting quietly in a Northern Virginia suburb.

Shopping & Dining at Virginia Gateway Gainesville is also home to Virginia Gateway, one of the largest shopping and dining destinations in the area — anchored by Target and Lowe's, with a wide mix of restaurants and everyday retail. It's a major reason residents rarely need to leave Gainesville for day-to-day errands.

Schools Gainesville's size means it's actually served by multiple high schools depending on the specific neighborhood: Battlefield High School serves the northern and western areas (including Dominion Valley, Heritage Hunt, and Piedmont), while Gainesville High School — the newest in the county, opened in 2021 — serves the southern area along Route 29.
