Centreville

A historic Fairfax County community dating back to 1792, offering family-friendly neighborhoods, excellent schools, and easy access to major commuter routes.

Centreville is served by three zip codes: 20120, 20121, and 20122 (20122 is the smallest of the three and covers a more limited residential area).

Centreville's roots go back further than most Northern Virginia communities — residents petitioned the Virginia Assembly to found the town in 1792, along what was then Braddock's Road. Its strategic location on high ground between Washington and Manassas Junction made it significant during the Civil War; Union forces occupied the town starting in July 1861, and the surrounding area saw real military activity throughout the war. Today, Centreville is an unincorporated community in western Fairfax County, about 24-25 miles from downtown D.C. via I-66 (roughly 35 minutes outside of rush hour), with easy access to I-66, Route 29, and Route 50.

A Community Shaped by History and Convenience Centreville sits close to some of the region's most significant historical and recreational destinations. Manassas National Battlefield Park, just south of town, preserves the site of two major Civil War battles and offers hiking trails and visitor programs. Bull Run Regional Park and the Winery at Bull Run both offer outdoor recreation and leisure close to home, and the Sully Historic Site — an 18th-century plantation house with guided tours — sits nearby as well. For families, the Cub Run RECenter offers indoor pools and fitness facilities right in the community.

Schools

Centreville is served by Fairfax County Public Schools. Depending on the specific address, students may attend Centreville High School (part of the Centreville Pyramid, serving the broader Centreville/Clifton area — note the school building itself sits just across the line in Clifton) or other nearby FCPS schools. As always, we recommend verifying exact school assignment for any specific address.
